VOLLEYBALL REGULATIONS - NORTHERN SATIS
GRADES/ROSTERS:
  1. Grades played include Girls & Boys Senior (Year 11/12), Years 7-10 teams to compete in NHSSA rosters.
  2. There may also be divisions (1&2 or A&B) if there are too many teams for one roster.
  3. If a school enters more than one team in the same division, there will be no interchange of players between the teams without the permission of the Chair of NSATIS.
 
GAMES/MATCHES:
4. Volleyball shall be conducted under the international rules of Volleyball, except as stated;
5. Venues
     1. All matches will be played at school gyms or school hired venues.
6. Game Time
     1. Match days will be scheduled to start at 3:30 when NW schools are involved and 4:15pm if no NW school playing
     2. If a team are not in position to commence the match 15 minutes after the allotted start time, that team will forfeit the match
7. Match Format  
      1.Senior (Year 11/12) - Matches played on Full Court. 3-set matches, two sets to 25 points and a third set to 15. Each set must be won by two points. The winner is the first  
       team to win two sets.
8. Players
        
    1. A team consists of six (6) players on the court with up to six (6) substitutes.  A team may play with four (4) or five (5) players.
    2.   
    3. Rotation of players at each change of serve, including bringing new players onto the court.
9. Uniform
        
    1. All players must be in recognised school sports uniform. A player incorrectly attired may not take the court.
    2.   
    3. Where a clash of uniform colour occurs, the home team will wear their usual uniform and in the final the higher placed team wears their usual uniform.
10. Match Officials
        
    1. Umpiring - For 1st Grade or Year 11/12, umpires will be coordinated by the regional Sports Administrator.
    2.   
    3. Scores should be written on the result sheet after each set, and signed by both teams at the conclusion of the match
    4.   
    5. Before the start of the match, names of members of both teams are to be filled in on the score sheets.
11. Equipment
        
    1. Each team is obliged to provide a match ball.

    3. Antennae
    4.   
    5. Net height; where possible net heights should match the following                  
                  A. Year 11/12: Girls 2.15m  
                  B. Year 11/12: Boys 2.43m
 
12. PLAYING REGULATIONS
        
    1. To score points, a team must send the ball over the net, grounding it into the opponent's court.
    2.   
    3. Only 6 players on the floor at any given time: 3 in the front row and 3 in the back row.
    4.   
    5. There is a maximum of 3 hits per side.
    6.   
    7. Points are made on every serve for the winning team of rally (rally-point scoring).
    8.   
    9. Players may not hit the ball twice in succession (a block is not considered a hit).
    10.   
    11. Ball may be played off the net during a volley and on a serve.
    12.   
    13. A ball hitting a boundary line is in.
    14.   
    15. A ball is out if it hits an antennae, the floor completely outside the court, any of the net or cables outside the antennae, the referee stand or pole, or the ceiling above a non-playable area.
    16.   
    17. It is legal to contact the ball with any part of a player's body.
    18.   
    19. It is illegal to catch, hold or throw the ball.
    20.   
    21. A player cannot block or attack a serve from on or inside the 10-foot line.
    22.   
    23. After the serve, front-line players may switch positions at the net.
 
13. Basic Volleyball Rule Violations
Committing any of these volleyball rule violations results in a point for the opponent.
        
    1. Stepping on or across the service line when serving while making contact with the ball.
    2.   
    3. Failure to serve the ball over the net successfully.
    4.   
    5. Ball-handling errors and contacting the ball illegally (double touching, lifting, carrying, throwing, etc.)
    6.   
    7. Touching the net with any part of the body while the ball is in play.
    8.   
    9. Blocking a ball coming from the opponent's court and contacting the ball when reaching over the net if your opponent has not used 3 contacts AND has a player there to make a play on the ball.
    10.   
    11. Attacking a ball coming from the opponent's court and contacting the ball when reaching over the net when the ball has not yet broken the vertical plane of the net.
    12.   
    13. Crossing the court centreline with any part of your body, with the exception of a hand or foot. It is only considered a violation if the entire hand or entire foot crosses the court centreline.
    14.   
    15. Serving out of rotation or out of order.
    16.   
    17. Back row player blocking (deflecting a ball coming from the opponent) when, at the moment of contact, the back row player is near the net and has part of their body above the top of the net. This is an illegal block.
    18.   
    19. Back row player attacking a ball inside the front zone (the area inside the 3M/10-foot line) when, at the moment of contact, the ball is completely above the net. This is an illegal attack.
 
FINALS & QUALIFYING:
14. Where possible, umpires will be independent for all finals.
15. Qualifying players for finals
        
    1. To qualify to play in a final a player must have played at least half of the roster matches played by the team contesting the final.
 
RESULTS
16. Results are to be sent to the NSATIS Admin Officer weekly so results can be entered and uploaded to the website.
17. Point score
Win/Forfeit = 5
Draw = 3
Loss = 1
Washout = 3
Forfeit against = 0
 
Followed by Set percentage - Sets won/ Sets lost
Then Points percentage - Points won/ Points lost  
 
The tiebreak steps to decide ladder positions are...
        
    1. Sets difference (won/lost in the games between the level teams)
    2.   
    3. Points difference (won/lost in the games between the level teams)
    4.   
    5. Sets difference (won/lost overall by the level teams)
    6.

  1. Grades played include Girls Senior (Year 9 - 12), Girls Year 7/8, Boys Senior (Year 11/12), Boys Year 7/8 and Boys Year 9/10.  NB: 2022 are the inaugural rosters, and so these groupings may be varied, depending on entries, to ensure a viable roster.

    3. In the instance multiple rosters run on the same afternoon, matches may be played in two time slots eg. 4:00pm and 5:00pm

    1. Year 7/8 - Matches played on 1/3 or 1/4 court.  3-set matches to 15. Each set must be won by two points. The winner is the first team to win two sets.  2 x roster games at the same venue each week.

    3. Senior and Year 9/10 - Matches played on Full Court. 3-set matches, two sets to 25 points and a third set to 15. Each set must be won by two points. The winner is the first team to win two sets.

    i. A team consists of six (6) players on the court with up to six (6) substitutes.  A team may play
    with four (4) or five (5) players.
    ii. Rotation of players at each change of serve, including bringing new players onto the court.
6. Uniform
    i. All players must be in recognised school sports uniform. A player incorrectly attired may not take
    the court.
    ii. Where a clash of uniform colour occurs, the home team will wear their usual uniform and in the
    final the higher placed team wears their usual uniform.
