BASKETBALL (JSSATIS) REGULATIONS - SOUTHERN SATIS
Basketball Rules - Year 3/4 Basketball Competition
        
    1. Size 5 basketball shall be used.
    2.   
    3. Numbered shirts or bibs are to be worn.
    4.   
    5. The height of the basketball ring will be the normal height of the ring in gym used.
    6.   
    7. The penalty free throw line shall be from the stadium's designated line. If students are struggling to make the distance the referee can move them forward to a closer line.
    8.   
    9. Match consists of 2 x 20 minute halves and a 2 minute half-time break.
    10.   
    11. The time clock will not stop for the duration of game time.
    12.   
    13. Only one time-out per half is allowed- 1 minute for time outs and the clock does not stop. No time-out allowed in the last 3 minutes of either half.
    14.   
    15. It is encouraged that all players shall receive equal court time.
    16.   
    17. Individual foulds will be recorded and on the 5th individual foul, the player will be removed from play for the remainder of the game.
    18.   
    19. Any team leading by 10 points or more must withdraw their defense behind the half way line.
    20.   
    21. Any team leading by 20 points or more must withdraw their defense behind the three - point line.
    22.   
    23. The three second violation in the key shall be extended to 5 seconds (only applies while the player's team has possession). Educate the players on this if you have to call this.
    24.   
    25. Back court won't be enforced for these age groups.
    26.   
    27. No finals series for these competitions.
    28.   
    29. Three pointers will not apply to these age groups.
    30.   
    31. If a school wishes to keep score on the scoreboard then both sides must agree to this before the start of the game. If the score on the scoreboard is more than 20 points at half time, then scores will not be kept on the scoreboard in the 2nd half.
    32.   
    33. Umpires in this competition are 'facilitators' and should aim to educate the players on the rules/skills of the game of basketball. Using common sense, consistency and umpires discretion is important in the JSSATIS Basketball roster.
    34.   
    35. Jewellery must be removed prior to the start of play. If players are unable to remove jewellery, then the jewellery must be covered and protected by suitable tape. Nails are to be kept short in length.
