SATIS Representative Football Report

SATIS Representative Football 2017
On Saturday 12 August 2017, 22 students across 5 schools represented the SATIS football competition in Melbourne in a game against an APS (Associated Public Schools) representative team from Victoria. The game was held at the Carey Grammar Sports Complex as part of the annual APS v AGSV (Associated Grammar Schools) Winter Sports Carnival.
This was the first time a representative team from SATIS has travelled interstate to play against another Independent School association. This event provided an opportunity for our students to be seen by AFL talent ID staff that attend the annual APS v AGSV game. A number of our students were recognised by recruiters, with comments made on the AFL Draft Central Facebook page about 5 SATIS students.
SATIS Team: Tim Auckland, Connor Dixon, Will Edmunds, Lachie Gee, Miller Hodge, Fletcher Bennett (Scotch Oakburn), James Gillow, Julian James, Dylan Jones, Casey Brown (St Patrick’s College), James Curran, Wilbur Stephenson, Charles Curran (Launceston Grammar), Oliver Farid, Tom Reeves, Oliver Burrows-Cheng (Hutchins), Tyler Martin, Harry Richmond, Riley Hooker, Nathan Duggan, Declan Waddington, Elijah Reardon (Guilford Young College).
The team was co-coached by 7-time premiership coach Laine Cleaver from St Patrick’s College and former AGSV representative player and Collingwood listed player, Blair Brownless from Guilford Young College.  Adrian Finch from The Hutchins School undertook the role of Team Manager.  Nathan Duggan (GYC) and Julian James (SPC) were selected Co-Captains of the team.
The final score APS 15.16.106 defeated SATIS 6.14.50 did not reflect the closeness of the contest. SATIS led for the majority of the first quarter, with scores even halfway through the second quarter. The APS side kicked the last 5 goals of the game after our STATIS team dominated the first 15 minutes of the final term but kicked inaccurately only managing to score 1 goal and 7 behinds.
APS Best: West, Hille, Lewis, Delaney, Cormack Goals: Loewe 3, Griffiths 2, Hille 2, Paige 1, Thompson 1, West 1, Clarke 1, Whitehead 1, Lewis 1, Cameron 1, O’Halloran 1. SATIS Best: C Brown, H Richmond, R Hooker, T Auckland, D Waddington Goals: D Jones 2, H Richmond 1, C Brown 1, M Hodge 1, O Burrows-Cheng 1.
